Factory Tour

Factory Tour May 2011

Here at Wybone we’ve always been keen to show people what we do and how we do it. So when representatives from Sunderland and Middlesbrough Councils wanted to come and have a look around our factory, we welcomed them with open arms.

We arranged for a group to visit us in May, so they could get a behind-the-scenes look at our Barnsley base.

Firstly they went to the GFC department where Paul gave them a run down of exactly how our Glass Fibre Composite bins are made from scratch. That included watching the wooden frame being set up, the glass fibre spray gun in operation, assembly, fitting the attachments and the final lick of paint. He also showed them the infamous ‘hammer test’ (see picture).

Next Tony took over the reins to give a tour of the metal work and fabrication department, so they could see how our metal products are manufactured. This gave them a chance to watch our welders at work, where the sparks were really flying! The new press brake machine and ovens were also a highlight during the visit.

Andrew was the next to step in and demonstrate the processes involved in making our clinical waste sackholder range. The assembly line illustrated exactly how the products are put together and reinforced the need for precision and accuracy.

The final stop was in our design department where the group could see how an idea is turned into reality. Here Daniel and Olivia operate on a system called Solid Works, which is a virtual programme that displays 3D images, so they can work on every aspects of the design.  Daniel talked the reps through some of the specifications he’s looking at for them and how some of our current products, like the Torpedo bench, could be tweaked so that it fits their needs.

We've had some brilliant feedback from everyone who came along, so its great to know that everyone enjoyed themselves:

'Thank you for your kind invitation to us to look around and see behind the scenes at Wybone.
We had a very informative and enjoyable visit most worthwhile.
Thanks to you, Richard, Paul and all the rest of the team for making us so welcome.'
